UV Light For Better Indoor Air

UV light has long been used in the medical industry to kills airborne germs to prevent outbreaks of contagious disease. Corporations also install them to reduce illnesses among employees. Now the same powerful tool can be used in residential air systems to help improve the quality of the air you breathe.

An ultraviolet light -- a sterilizing agent found in nature -- can be installed directly in your heating and cooling system to eliminate viruses, fungi and bacteria. These are all invisible to the naked eye but can irritate allergies and create other health problems.

How it works: A UV light-exposure unit is installed within your existing HVAC system. Air passes through the exposure unit, which breaks down the microorganisms on a molecular level, altering their DNA or RNA and rendering them harmless. The air continues through your HVAC system and is recirculated throughout your house.

By ridding your air of microorganisms, UV purifiers -- also known as "germicidal" air cleaners -- can help benefit people suffering from:

  • Asthma.
  • Other respiratory problems.
  • Skin irritations.
  • Chronic colds.
  • Ongoing fatigue and lethargy.
