Take Advantage of Energy Tax Credits and Rebates

Have you noticed that these days you can get some amazing deals on new heating and cooling systems? Hardware stores and suppliers have responded to the economic downturn by providing some of the best prices in years.

However, manufacturers’ discounts are not the only savings available for new HVAC installations.  Although the Indiana appliance rebate program is now closed, other state and county incentives are still available.  And, government tax rebates and credits can also give you a 25% break on HVAC purchasing costs.  Knowing which ones are available and when they expire are key to getting the most out of them.

What’s available? Purchasing a biomass stove, heat pump, furnace blower, central air unit, boiler, water heater, insulation, new windows or doors to improve the efficiency of heating your home, may qualify you for a tax credit of up to 30% of the purchase price for qualified appliances. That’s up to $1,500. All you have to do is make the purchase before December 31, 2010.

Green technology purchases can save you even more. Tax rebates of up to 30% can be used toward the total price of geothermal heat pumps, wind turbines, home fuel cell technology, or solar energy systems. December 31, 2016 is the cut-off date for these purchases. So plan ahead – seriously thinking about going green in the next six years may end up saving you some serious green.

What’s great about these purchases is that you will keep on saving with these systems long after you get your rebate. Qualified HVAC systems are all energy saving – providing savings every month on your energy bill.

Green systems can reduce your energy bill even more dramatically, paying for the whole system in just a few years. A green system also gives a certain peace of mind, knowing that you are doing your part to decrease our nation’s dependence on fossil fuels, and the pollution that results from using them to heat and cool our homes.
